Bluland ground gutters were born out of a centuries-old European tradition of rainwater management. In an engineering marvel of its day, rainwater was captured and transported along the ground through viaducts crossing the Roman Empire. Centuries later, the tradition followed settlers to America with the Williamsburg colony. Today, it's alive in the works of Bluland Ground Gutters.
Douglas' father created the first Bluland ground gutter system for the family home in Cheraw, SC. Based on a design he saw in Historic Williamsburg, he used bricks made by the family business.
Two decades later his son refined the process and began creating custom installations for historic and modern houses in upstate South Carolina.
To meet the demands of their growing client base, Douglas and Mary Anderson established Bluland Ground Gutters in 1999.
